Shortened Development Cycles

  • Increased Competition

In today’s market, competition is fierce and unforgiving. Companies have to deliver not only top-notch products, but high quality services as well. Documentation is an integral part of a company’s image, marketing strategy and product support services.

Scoggins Communications gives you a competitive advantage by staying abreast of the latest technologies and helping you create documentation in the most suitable print or online format using the latest media types. We methodically interview Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), gather relevant information, and craft the documentation the manner and format matching the knowledge level of the target audience.

  • High Quality Requirements

Today's technical documentation is as sophisticated as the software or product it represents: it must be accurate, precise, consistent and meet customers’ expectations. The documentation structure must be easy to follow using a clear, concise layout with appropriate cross-references, indices and glossaries. All documents must be written in a similar style and use the same terminology.

Scoggins Communications ensures a strict adherence to a corporate writing styles and agendas. We painstakingly coordinate documentation development with SMEs, project management, marketing and customer support and thoroughly review and test the documentation to ensure it meets all requirements and expectations of both the organization and the customer.

  • Diversified Media

Gone are the days of printing and delivering hard copies. Today’s tech-savvy customers demand instant access to information using electronic media such as the Web, hand-held devices and Internet repositories. Converting this information to, and maintaining it in, different media types can be time-consuming and lead to duplication of effort and wasted resources.

Scoggins Communications helps to cope with this diversity by single-sourcing the content and easily converting it to many different formats, such as online (Help systems, knowledge bases, PDF portfolios), offline (CD, DVD) and print (PDF). This guarantees consistency of the information and adherence to corporate presentation standards in all published documents.

  • Shortened Development Cycles

Stiff competition and a poor economy continue to force companies to shorten development timelines and slash departmental budgets even further. This puts enormous pressure on the documentation team to maintain quality while meeting delivery deadlines. A practical documentation process and streamlined review and editing technique are key elements in getting back on track.

With our background in Quality Assurance, Scoggins Communications helps redefine, streamline and document the documentation control process to meet today’s challenges. We conduct online collaborative document reviews to instantly capture reviewer feedback for quick incorporation back into the documentation, thus reducing the documentation development cycle.

 Industry Trends

According to the results of a recent survey of over 100 large and small technology companies across the U.S., a common method to reduce technical support costs is by outsourcing technical writing services.

However, when out-sourcing to offshore agencies, especially those using non-English-speaking writers, several respondents revealed that document quality often suffers.

Additional Key Findings:

  • Factors affecting the quality of documentation include compressed work cycles, the elimination of proofing, and shortened production times.
  • More than half of all respondents reported that internal business pressures are affecting the quality and delivery of technical documentation.
  • Reduced budgets prevent many companies from hiring needed technical writers or subject matter experts.
  • More than half of the respondents said they are expected to produce the same number of documents with fewer resources.
  • More than 75 percent of the respondents rated technical documents as "important" or "extremely important" to their companies.
